Ability to allow PreOrder option in addition to Waitlisting, on selected products

Often, when an item sells out, customers do not particularly want to be on a "waitlist". Or once an item is in-stock and drops into their cart, they remove it because they don't understand why it was added, or don't want it anymore. This results in lost sales.
I would love the ability to allow Pre-Ordering when an item reaches 0 inventory. (This would not be a specific number, but might need a min/max field to trigger notifications?
And possibly an option "Estimated wait-time"?)
Each Product would need the ability to turn on/off the pre-order option. Then, when an item sells-out, (if the product is enabled for Pre-Order), customers would have the choice of either Pre-ordering and dropping the item into their cart and paying.... or Waitlisting, and being notified when it is in stock. (This option would keep it out of their cart, and it would only drop into their cart when inventory was received, and pre-order (paid) orders were filled. )

Be You, For You Boutique would like to be able to have the option to preorder items, and have customers put down a deposit so that way there is not as much lost revenue with waitlisting since they can remove it from their carts

we print t shirts at our boutique. being able to sell only the t shirts when out of stock would be a game changer because we wouldn't need to carry "fake" inventory numbers to sell a t shirt because we print on demand. currently we would need to put in quantities of each item that we don't physically have!

Since the qty is 0 on a presale if you enable "hide sold out" the presale items will not be shown

Currently, I allow a Product to hit 0, and then I append the Product Name with "PreOrder", mark the product as "Not Received" and then add Qty 10 (or however many) to inventory manually. It's not ideal,and it certainly has its limitations.

I would love the option to be able to hide SOLD OUT items but the way it is right now if you hide SOLD OUT items it also hides your PRE-ORDERS since they are seen as one in the same to the system

I AGREE !!!! It is very confusing on the web store when the item is in the Pre Order category but says SOLD OUT under it !

Would love the ability to mimic Shopify for their "allow overselling" so it takes the product negative vs. having to fake the inventory value (affecting inventory reporting etc). and then turn off the overselling when preorders are ready to be placed for the store

I'd love this.. but a workaround I've done is I add a variant that says "RE-ORDERING/(or pre-sale if a pre-sale) and add a fake qty. That way it shows up in product list and they know it's goign to be re-ordered.

Alexandra Laigle: with this option, do items move to cart or waitlist when a customer comments? I don’t want products moved to cart until I receive in stock and can verify everything is intact. Thanks.
